About

While studying to become a classical pianist at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, I became fascinated with the inner workings of the piano. I began a career in piano technology, working first as a student assistant to the Oberlin Conservatory Piano Technician, and then broadening my education by attending the 2-year program in piano technology at the North Bennet Street School, in Boston, MA. My training includes numerous Steinway technical seminars and workshops, along with classes given by the Piano Technicians Guild. I currently work as the concert piano technician for the Brevard Music Center, the NC Symphony, and the Asheville Chamber Music Series, in addition to working for private piano owners and institutional organizations throughout North Carolina.

Over a career of 42 years, I have worked for the Carolina Performing Arts, and the Dept. of Music UNC-CH, the Asheville Chamber Music Series, The Fletcher School of Music, UNC-G School of Music, Elon University, Salem College, The Secrest Artist Series of Wake Forest University, and the University of NC School for the Arts, in Winston-Salem, NC. I have also rebuilt Steinways and other fine grand pianos as an independent piano rebuilder for more than 25 years. This unique combination of concert and shop experience has given me the confidence and expertise to diagnose and remedy virtually any problem that your piano may experience.

I believe the quality of your piano depends directly on the training and experience of your piano technician. Musical instruments are unique in their fundamental and consistent need for expert mechanical maintenance in order to become the vehicles for artistic expression that they are designed to be. I will be happy to work with you to realize your piano’s potential, and thereby enhance your musical life.
